Hearing support

In Leicester City, the Hearing Support Team works with schools and families to ensure that your child fully accesses school life and that their hearing needs are met.

All children and young people with a unilateral or bilateral hearing loss will be supported from birth and throughout their years in education. The Hearing Support Team visit children and young people at home, in settings and schools.

The team support families and staff by providing specialist educational advice, training on understanding hearing loss, managing audiological equipment and how to promote good language, listening, communication and social and emotional wellbeing. They visit children and young people in their school and advise their teachers on what needs to be in place for your child to be happy and to access learning.  Where necessary they will directly teach some of the children on their caseload. Any communication methods that you have chosen for your child will be supported within school and at home.

This will enable your child to access learning and develop into a confident, independent successful young person. Schools should have high expectations of your child and help them to reach their full potential.

The team work closely with health and other professionals to provide a coordinated service.
