Types of childcare
There are a lot of different childcare arrangements on offer which you can mix and match to suit your daily schedule, working hours, study or training.
The different types of childcare available are:
Registered childcare
The following services must be registered with Ofsted or with a childminder agency if they look after children up to the age of eight for more than 2 hours a day for pay or reward.
- Childminders
- Day nurseries
- School based nurseries
- Pre-school playgroups
- Crèche
- Out of school care
- Holiday playschemes
Non-registered childcare
The following do not have to register but they may choose to go on the Ofsted Voluntary Childcare Register.
- Home based childcarer
- Nannies, babysitters and au-pairs
