Free and low cost family-friendly activities take place this in Leicester this week.

Monday 4 August

  • Aylestone family fun day
    Get creative and join in with a range of drop in and bookable Story Garden activities - and don't forget to borrow a book!
  • Leicester's Play Day
    National Play Day takes place on Wednesday 6 August 2025.  This year, Leicester's Play Day is extended across the whole week to give families the chance to take part at a Children, Young People and Family Centre or venue local to them. 

Tuesday 5 August

  • By the beaver pool - Meet the author
    Catherine Ward will read her book 'By the Beaver Pool', which is a selected title for the Summer Reading Challenge.  Catherine will  share interesting facts about beavers, their families and their habitats.
  • Fosse family fun day
    Boost your coding skills with fun activities with Lego coding kits 
    • 1pm to 4pm at Fosse Library

    Enjoy summer holiday craft activities with a different theme each week.  
    • Drop in between 10am and 12noon; 2pm and 4pm at Leicester Cathedral

  • Railway days
    Come and enjoy a ride on the diesel driven Narrow Gauge Railway this summer!  Bring a picnic to enjoy in the wonderful museum grounds. 

Wednesday 6 August

  • Crafting at the Haymarket
    Take part in the free STOMP and jungle themed crafting for all in the Community Hub and make a animal hanging decoration.

    An opportunity for you and your family to explore Leicester on your bikes. 
  • Pork Pie family fun day
  • Story Garden Crafts
    Crafts session based on the Summer Reading Challenge.
    • Drop in between 1pm and 3pm at Fosse Library
    • Theme of the day: Wiggly worm bookmarks
  • The magical garden of music
    As the enchanting accordion music fills the air, rest on beanbags and doodle your own magical garden.
    • Sessions run between 11am and 3pm at Central Library
    • Booking required - telephone 0116 454 0290
    • Ticket prices: Library members £1.50 each; non members £2 each
    • Ages 5 to 8 year olds
  • Wizard School
    Calling all wizards, come to our fun day of crafts and games at Newarke Houses Museum. Make a wizard hat, wizard school tie and your own snowy owl. Explore the gardens to find pictures of your favourite wizard characters.
    • 12noon to 3pm at Newarke Houses
    • Child (under 16) £4 online in advance, £5 at the door.
    • Dressing up welcome.

Thursday 7 August

  • Circus fun day!
    Roll up, roll up for a fun day of crafts and activities at the Guildhall. Make a ‘big top’ hat, a trapeze artist decoration and a cute clown. Play hook a duck, hoopla and tin can alley in the courtyard (no prizes, it’s just for fun). 
    • 11am to 3pm at Leicester Guildhall
    • £4 online for participating children, £5 on the door, adults free.

Sunday 10 August

  • Curve on the square
    Join the Curve to celebrate local communities and artists across a weekend of free live entertainment and activities for all ages.
