Staying safe in the community

It is important to know how to stay safe when you are in the community. Plan carefully where you will go and with who. Share your plans with family and discuss where you can get help if something goes wrong.

  • Keep safe places are places to go to if you are feeling confused, scared or need some help.
  • Keep safe card is a small card that has important information about you as well as contact numbers of people to call if you need.
  • Save helpful numbers in your contact list on your mobile phone, these can be family, friends and services such as taxis.

Gadgets to support safety

There are many apps available for mobile phones that can help you in the community.

  • Find my Kids, Family locator and Life 360 are a few free apps that can trace where you are.  Discuss with family if one of these can be installed.
  • ICE In case of emergency – medical contact card, shares health information on a locked screen
  • Think about carrying a personal alarm or installing a personal safety app on your mobile.
