Holiday activities and food programme

Children and young people who receive benefit related free school meals will be able to access free activities and food provision over the easter, summer and winter holidays.

Winter Offer

Our winter holiday activities and food (HAF) offer will take place between 17 to 30 December 2022 and eligible children can register to attend one free HAF programme over the winter school holiday.

Programmes normally take place over 4 hours a day for 4 days.  However, some of the HAF providers are offering flexible programmes that may run for longer hours over less days, or shorter hours over more days.

Each eligible child will also be given a nutritious and healthy lunch on each programme day that they attend.  If a programme runs for less than 4 days, children will receive a food hamper to take home with them on the last day of the programme.

Each providers' information page will state the programme days and hours and if a food hamper will be provided.  Please consider this when making your choice.

Who is this for?

Our HAF programme is only available to children and young people who meet all of the following criteria:

What programmes are available?

This winter, we have 40 approved HAF providers who are offering over 60 programmes across the city.

How to register?

Each providers' information page states how to register and provides any relevant links to forms.

Before you register, please make sure that the programme is suitable for your child by considering:

  • age range
  • days and times
  • location
  • activities offered

Places are limited and will be offered on a first come first served basis to children who are eligible for benefits-related free school meals.

Inclusive provision

HAF programmes are available to eligible children who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and our providers endeavour to meet all children’s needs. Please provide as much information as possible about your child's needs when completing your registration form.

Our programme providers will contact you prior to the start date to discuss your child's needs and to plan for any adjustments that are required.  If a provider is not able to meet your child's needs, we will signpost you to alternative provision that may be more suitable.
