Returning back to childcare and school
From 1 June, at the very earliest, children and young people of certain age ranges will be encouraged to return back to school and education.
Each school, college or childcare provider will decide on the best way to re-open their setting and will carry out various risk assessments that will help to protect both children and staff on their return.
Please do check return arrangements for your child’s school or setting. The school or setting will inform parents of the specific arrangements through their own method of communication, such as email, letter and website.
Who will return first
In addition to the vulnerable children and children of key workers who are already attending a setting or school, the DFE has suggested schools and settings prioritise:
- Childcare and early education
Childminders, pre-schools and nurseries, including school based nurseries will start to welcome back all under 5’s.
- Infant, Junior and Primary
- Year 1
Unfortunately siblings in year groups 2, 3 4 or 5 are not to return at this stage unless they are vulnerable children or children of keyworkers.
Year 10 pupils will begin face to face support with their school, but it is not expected that they return on a full-time basis at this stage
- Sixth form and further education colleges
Year 12 pupils will begin face to face support with their college, but it is not expected that they return on a full-time basis at this stage
