Free Early Education for 3 and 4 year olds

All three and four year olds are entitled to 15 hours of free early education a week for 38 weeks of an academic year, regardless of parent’s financial circumstances or nationality.   Working parents may also be eligible to up to a total of 30 hours of free childcare.

This entitlement applies until the child reaches compulsory school age, which is the term following their fifth birthday.  The table below shows when your child will be eligible to take up their entitlement:

1st April and 31st August

1st Sept or beginning of autumn term following their 3rd birthday until statutory school age

1st Sept and 31st  Dec

1st Jan or beginning of spring term following their 3rd birthday until statutory school age

1st Jan and 31st March

1st April or beginning of summer term following their 3rd birthday until statutory school age
