Who is eligible for free early education for two year olds?

The offer of free early education for two year olds is currently available to children who are of the eligible age range and meet one of the following criteria:

 

  • The child is a looked after by the local authority.

  • The child is no longer looked after by the local authority as a result of an adoption order, a special guardianship order or a residence order.

  • The child has a current statement of special educational needs or an education, health and care plan.

  • The child is entitled to disability living allowance.
  • The parents or carers meet the Earnings and Benefits Criteria

 



Eligible Age Range 


If eligible the child is eligible, the offer will start at the beginning of the term following the child's second birthday.   The table below will demonstrate this:

 

 Child turns 2 years old between     

 Eligible from   

 1 January - 31 March    

 Summer term (April) 

 1 April - 31 August  

 Autumn term (September)    

 1 September - 31 December   

 Spring term (January)
